Squidoo Bug

I promised myself I’d keep my head down and just focus on what I know needs to be done. But, it kept nagging away at me.

I watched the video, read the sales letter and then as promised to myself I didn’t buy anything. But, it kept nagging away at me.

So when I had a little free time I thought I’d give it a try for myself to see how easy it is.

Yes, I’m talking about creating a Squidoo Lens

Wow, it’s cool. So easy, the results look good and the lens has attracted some traffic within days with no effort on my part.

My first lens is about Costa Esuri (a place in Spain where I own a golf property) – it’s not a lens designed to generate an income – purely an interest of mine so you’re in no danger of having a look – Costa Esuri Lens. That said, Squidoo has various “income” generating features on the lens (Adsens for example) and shares any revenue with the lensmaster – you can choose to give your share to charity if you wish.

The thing I really like about Squidoo is that you can add feeds from your blogs, YouTube, create lists, a Guestbook, favourite products, sites… and it is all so very easy and quick.

I’ve found myself with the Squidoo Bug but fortunately it looks like a good business move as it’s generating some good traffic for me.

Take a look at my Costa Esuri lens to get a feel for what you can do – this took me only about 1 hour at the most although I did have most of the material and links already.

I’d love to hear what you think – leave a message (blurb) in the guestbook. But be careful…

You may get the squidoo bug!

Viral Friend (or Foe) Generator

Although I unsubscribed to dozens of lists a few weeks ago I’ve still been plagued by people selling me the virtues of Mike Filsaime’s latest product – Viral Friend Generator.

Now, I’m not going to be negative about the product because I haven’t bought it, used it or even tested it although there are a few observations below. But I must have my say about the usual hype surrounding the launch.

Everyman and his dog – yes I even had an email from Lassie offering me some doggie chocs if I buy through his (or was it her?) link :) – has been telling me over the past few days how vital it is that I get and use this program as it will increase my opt-in list by 300%.

The sales letter is of the usual high standard, playing on my emotions and making me feel that I’ll be missing out big time if I don’t snap it up immediately. My problem is that I don’t want a list cluttered up with dead email addresses, non-interested great aunties of potential customers or 4 year old kids that Dad just happened to have email addresses for.

Of course, I understand the viral effect that this could have IF every visitor to my site (assuming there was high traffic in the first place – will that be everyone who buys??) gave names of 3 hot prospects who each did the same BUT reality tells me otherwise. Frankly I’d find it difficult to justify giving the names of 3 of my “friends” so I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one.

In the right hands and with the right existing traffic / list I’m sure this latest “must have” will be used to great effect but I’m afraid for many it will be another $97 chasing fool’s gold.

What do you think? Have I really missed the point (again?!!**?)

Google Adwords

Still struggling with finding the solution to making money using Adwords & Adsense?

I came across this great e-book today, yours to download totally free, which I found really useful.

It is 85 pages crammed full with simple to follow instruction including foolproof strategies to finding the correct Google Adwords for your campaign.

I did find that the screen showing the Yahoo Bid Tool is out of date (I believe Yahoo has only recently removed this tool) but apart from that there is some really solid information. It was created by an expert in the field of SEO, Brad Callen, so there are some good credentials.

This is not some get rich quick scheme, just good quality information that you cannot ignore if your business model is focused on using Google Adwords.

I encourage you to download your complimentary copy – let me know what you think and whether this was useful for your business.

Good fortune

Fake testimonials??

Are you being scammed? Over the past few months I’ve been reviewing the usual “must have” / “can’t possibly live without” new internet marketing product launches and something really interesting hit me between the eyes.

Have you noticed how many of these “launches” (which are hyped up for weeks before) have sales pages bursting with testimonials from ecstatic existing users. Mmm, so how come they got to hear about and use the product before us?

Then I started to compare the sales letters and sure enough most of the testimonials are from the same bunch of gurus from the “marketing club” who will all be selling the program as affiliates.

Now, I’m not saying they haven’t seen the product (you may think that but I couldn’t possibly comment) but with a vested interest in a successful launch is there not a temptation to provide a glowing testimonial?

I don’t know about you but I don’t really value these testimonials much – they’re from guys who have a public image of success and most of the products would be unnecessary in their already successful businesses. I can see the benefit of genuine testimonials but page after page – pre-launch…

Let me know your thoughts – I may be about to launch a product!!

Wizzer

I have a number of people ask me where Wizzer came from.

Years ago I worked in a bank and one of my colleagues called me “Wislon” instead of Wilson. He was into spoonerisms (which I always thought was uncivilly common of him)!

So, as most people are lazy it got shortened to Wiz. As usual people then wanted to be clever and call me something different so they lengthened it again – to Wizzer.

When I was looking for an online image I decided to revamp Wizzer and got Denis at Shangrila Studio to design him for me. If you are looking for any graphic work – cartoon illustrations – design then add Denis to your shortlist. I worked with him over the web by email – he was timely, creative and an all round pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.
